Arsenal Prepare Summer Move for Versatile Bayern Munich Bit-Part Player

Emirates Stadium side plot bid for Brazilian international.

Arsenal have earmarked a summer move for Bayern Munich bit-part player Luiz Gustavo according to the Daily Express.
The versatile Brazilian international, who can play in the midfield as well as both a centre or left-back, is being used sparingly by Allianz Arena boss Jupp Heynckes and could therefore be interested in a possible move to the Emirates Stadium.
The 25 year old, who joined the Bavarian side in January 2011 after three solid years at Hoffenheim, has started just nine of Bayern Munich’s 22 Bundesliga outings this season and just one of the German side’s six Champions League fixtures.
Arsene Wenger could certainly do with a steely midfield presence, with the North London club failing to replace Alex Song who left for Barcelona last summer and the fact that Gustavo can assist in other roles will also be a feather in the Brazilian’s cap.
Wenger is looking for a player who could fill the hole left behind by Alex Song, who now plies his trade with Barcelona.
Arsenal apparently made their interest in Gustavo known last month but Bayern Munich were not willing to sell the player mid-season but could be open to a fresh approach in the summer

Real Madrid Ready to Express Interest In Man City Playmaker David Silva With £25m Offer

1
Silva Fulham
Bernabeu side keen on Etihad Stadium attacker.

Real Madrid will reportedly make a £25m offer for Man City playmaker David Silva this summer according to TuttoMercato.
fanatix tickets – El Clasico tickets are still available for the biggest derby match in Europe.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona tickets are on sale for this massive La Liga clash at the Bernabeau on March 3rd.

Bernabeu president Florentino Perez, who is keen to win re-election to his post this summer, has earmarked a move for the Spanish international but will surely be aware that such an offer is someway short of the former Valencia player’s real value.
Indeed such an offer could well just act as a way of informing the 27 year old that they are keen on acquiring his services.
Silva is into his third season at Man City and has finished as one of the most prolific Premier League assist-makers in his first team campaigns, and helped Roberto Mancini’s side to an FA Cup triumph in his first season and a domestic title in his second.
Though the pint sized attacker has been less effective this term there is still no denying just how pivotal a player he is at the Etihad Stadium side and given that money is not really an issue any bid for Silva would have to be some way higher than the £25m quoted to have any chance of signing the cultured midfielder.

Man United Close In On £36m South American Wing Wizard as Nani Heads for Old Trafford Exit

Man United are reportedly closing in on FC Porto winger James Rodriguez with Old Trafford wide-man Nani set to leave the club this summer according to CalcioMercato.
fanatix tickets- Sunderland vs Manchester United tickets are on sale from £27 for the match on March 30th at the Stadium of Light.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been scouting 21 year old Colombian international Rodriguez for some months now and Man United may have to stump up as much as £36m to sign the in-form attacker.
Rodriguez helped his side to back to back domestic titles in his first two seasons at the Estadio Dragao, as well as a Europa League triumph, and has risen the bar further during the current campaign.
The youngster is one of the Primeira Liga’s top goalscorers and assist-makers to boot and is a player who has worked incredibly well with compatriot Radamel Falcao at national team level.
This source states that Nani could move to FC Porto in a swap deal and in many ways that may well suit all parties.
The Portuguese international has played a limited role in Man United’s first team picture this season, making just five Premier League starts thus far this season.
Ferguson may well be keen to add some real cutting edge on his flanks due to the fact that neither Luis Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have provided much in this regard this term, indeed the pair have provided just seven assists and not a single goal between them in 29 Premier League appearances.

Arsenal Draw Up Ten Man Summer Wish-List as Wenger Is Handed £70m War-Chest

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is to be handed a £70m transfer warchest and the Daily Mail have compiled a list of ten players they believe are on the Gunners wish-list.
It appears that chief among those Wenger is chasing is a custodian to replace Polish youngster Wojciech Szczesny, who has looked decidedly shaky this season in marked contrast to his efforts last term when he was the undisputed number one between the posts.

Pepe Reina would appear to Arsenal’s number one choice for the job but it could prove tough to persuade Liverpool to sell the Spanish international, especially after a series of quality displays since the turn of the year. Having been at Anfield since 2005 one would imagine it would be tough for the 30 year old to leave for another Premier League side and the former Barcelona man may well be eyeing up a move back to the Nou Camp given that Victor Valdes has stated his intention to leave the Catalan club.
Simon Mignolet, Asmir Begovic and Michel Vorm are three other apparent candidates for a possible Gunners switch and of the three one would imagine moves to sign the Stoke City keeper would be the trickiest given Man United’s apparent interest in the Bosnian international.
The Daily Mail believe despite an unsuccessful attempt to sign the Spanish international last month, David Villa is still very much an Arsenal target.
The 31 year old will have a year to run on his current contract come the summer and this may well mean the former Valencia man would be available for a lesser price as Barcelona look to avoid the prospect of the bit-part player looking to run down his contract and leaving the Nou Camp on a free transfer, we are after all talking about a player that cost the La Liga giants £33m.
Despite his limited involvement in Tito Vilanova’s first team set-up Villa has still managed a very respectable total of 11 goals in just 13 starts in all competitions.
Jovetic Arsenal
However a move for Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic may better suit Arsene Wenger’s youthful transfer policy. The Montenegrin put in another masterful display on the weekend, netting twice as Fiorentina thumped Inter Milan 4-1.
The 23 year old cultured forward certainly suits Arsenal and with Giuseppe Rossi moving to the Serie A side in January there is perhaps scope for a possible move to North London.
Jovetic scored 14 goals in 27 Serie A appearances last term and has ten

Real Madrid 1-1 Man United: Champions League Match

Old Trafford side have handy away goal to bring back from trip to the Bernabeu.

Danny Welbeck and Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first-half goal apiece as Real Madrid and Manchester United played out an entertaining score-draw in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Former United star Ronaldo levelled on 30 minutes with his seventh Champions League goal of the season, making him the top-scorer in the competition, after Welbeck had headed home a corner 10 minutes earlier.
Alex Ferguson had promised goals before the match and they came early enough, but then his team put on a battling performance with David De Gea excellent in goal to take a draw into the second leg at Old Trafford on March 5.
“They did their job well, they did not let us create space or score goals, but we can definitely score at Old Trafford, many teams have done already this season and they will know that,” said Mourinho.
“Because of the football culture in England I don’t think they can play as defensively there. We had chances to score more tonight, but they had a lot of men in front of the ball especially in the second-half.
“It’s easy to understand, if they score first we have to score, if we score we’re in the lead,” he commented on the second leg.
Ferguson was happy with his side’s performance and the result, picking out De Gea, Welbeck and Phil Jones for special praise.
“We would have taken 1-1 before the game. In the first-half I was disappointed at how deep we played, but the away goal is important, it is not finished but it gives us a good chance to go through.
“We’ll play differently at home, they counter-attack very well but we have goals in our team, it’s still 50-50 but the team that scores first will have a good chance.” he said.
Sami Khedira had the first effort for the Madrid in the second minute when he pulled his shot well wide.
Next it was Angel Di Maria who tried his luck from outside the area before De Gea tipped a goal bound shot from Fabio Coentrao onto the post.
United weathered the early storm and when Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa combined well to win a corner on 20 minutes it was Welbeck who eluded the marking of Ramos to head home the opening goal and his first in the competition this season.

Ronaldinho’s video best trick yet

Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho is known for his box of tricks and this might just be the former Barcelona man’s finest yet…
With his Atletico Mineiro side preparing to take an attacking throw-in, play is halted and Ronaldinho idles forward to ask the opposition ‘keeper for a drink of water.
The defence remain static, forgetting, perhaps, that there are no offsides from throw-ins.
When play resumed, Ronaldinho is a good 15 yards clear and he is able to receive the ball, turn and force an own goal. Sneaky.

Sir Alex Ferguson says patience key to Manchester United youth policy

Manchester United are benefiting from sticking with their up-and-coming young stars, claims manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Goalscorer Danny Welbeck, defender Jonny Evans and, in particular, young Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea were all outstanding performers in United’s impressive 1-1 Champions League draw at Real Madrid in midweek.
The trio have developed into key members of a squad that has the slight upper hand in their last 16 European tie – with a second leg to come at Old Trafford – possesses a 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League and faces Reading in the last 16 of the FA Cup on Monday.
“We are patient with young players,” United manager Ferguson explained Friday. “We were patient with Tom Cleverley, sent him on loan on four different occasions until he matured and now he is an important member of the squad.
“I think you have to show patience. If you think they have the ability, then wait for that.”
Ferguson’s approach has been demonstrated superbly in de Gea, signed from Atletico Madrid for £18.9 million ($29.3 million) at the start of last season, and who has been widely criticised for his role in some of the goals United have leaked this campaign.
Former United defender turned television pundit Gary Neville led the harsh analysis of de Gea’s mistakes earlier in the season but the 22-year-old Spaniard’s display at the Bernabeu on Wednesday silenced the ex-England full-back and all his other critics.
“Maturity helps,” said Ferguson of de Gea’s development. “There are very few goalkeepers who come into the first team as teenagers, or approaching 20 years of age, and are the finished article.
“There are a couple of good examples that defy reason — (Gianluigi) Buffon went from Parma to Juventus and also Petr Cech from Rennes to Chelsea — but that’s not always the case.
“Peter Schmeichel didn’t join us until he was 27 and gave us eight great years. Normally, goalkeepers are in their mid-twenties before you get the finished article.
“A good performance helps any player but it also won’t change David. He is quite a down-to-earth boy.”
Welbeck, also 22, was another star of United’s display in Madrid, giving the Premier League table-toppers the lead on Wednesday.
Despite the excellent seasons being enjoyed by Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, the striker serves as an example that United’s highly-regarded youth system is still producing high-level graduates.
“That performance won’t do him any harm, that’s for sure,” said Ferguson. “He’s not a lad who lacks confidence, he has good inner confidence.
“But it’s a great boost to younger players who are coming behind him, from the academy as Danny has done.
“He has been with us since he was nine years old and it’s a great testimony to the development we do with our younger players.
“They can see that by trusting us to map out their careers and help them, that they can get to Danny’s situation.”
One player at the other extreme of the experience scale — 38-year-old Paul Scholes — is out for at least two weeks with a knee problem, having missed the first leg in Madrid.
“It has been bothering him a bit and we tried another treatment at the weekend,” said Ferguson. “Maybe a couple of weeks and he will be back.”

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand hopes that Ronaldo chokes in Champions League clash

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand hopes that Ronaldo chokes in Champions League clash

Manchester United stalwart Rio Ferdinand says he hopes Cristiano Ronaldo chokes in tomorrow’s Champions League clash between United and Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernebeu.
Ronaldo is set to face his former club for the first time since his £80m switch to the Spanish capital in 2009 and the 28-year-old superstar warmed up in perfect style with a hat-trick against Sevilla on Saturday.
Ferdinand, 34, admits he is still in touch with the forward but says he hopes Ronaldo is overcome by the occasion.
“It’s obviously going to be an emotional night for Ronaldo and a great night for him too,” Ferdinand is quoted as saying by the Sport Review.
“But hopefully it gets too emotional for him.
“We’ve had a few texts, but when you get into a situation like this when you’re coming up against a friend, all the texts and the conversations go to one side and you don’t really speak until you actually get the game over and done with.
“He has a great rapport with the fans and there is a mutual respect between them both, which is great.
“The fans appreciated him when he was here and since he’s been gone they sing his name. He came here a young boy and left a world-class player. He showed a lot of respect when he left and still does.”
Ronaldo has scored a staggering 182 goals in 179 matches since joining Los Blancos and Ferdinand admits that the Red Devils will have to be at their best to contain the Portugal international – and his array of talented Real teammates.
“We’re going to have to use all of our experience, courage and ability to make sure that we stop not only Ronaldo, but the other players they have, because Real are a great team.
“They have so many other weapons. We could shut Ronaldo down for 90 minutes, but they still have players to hurt us, so we have to be compact and work hard.”
